Dr. Mann was born and grew up in the Mid-west, in a town in the South-East corner of the State called Nebraska City, NE. He moved to Houston to escape the extreme weather in the Mid-West. Dr. Mann attended High School in Nebraska City and did his undergraduate work at the University of Nebraska. He earned his Doctorate in Optometry from the University of Houston in 1984. Dr. Mann has been around the eyecare field most of his life. His Uncle was an Ophthalmologist, his Father was an Optometrist and his brother practices Optometry in Nebraska. Helping people see and restore their eye-sight is extremely rewarding for Dr. Mann. This is why he chose to be an Optometrist. “From young, first-time glasses wearers, to people with eye disease, nothing is more precious than eyesight”, he states. Having great experience in the Optical field, Dr. Mann always comes in with a positive attitude and is fluent in Spanish. Dr. Mann specializes in treating Eye Infections, Allergies, Glaucoma and Dry Eye.
His professional interests include LASIK Surgery Management and Macular Degeneration.
In his spare time he likes to garden, read and spend time with his family and Grandchildren.
Dr. James L. Mikkelsen is a graduate of Texas Lutheran University as well as the University Of Houston College Of Optometry where he earned a Doctor of Optometry degree. He practices full-scope primary eye care including basic Eye Examinations, complex Contact Lens Fitting, Pediatric Vision Care, diagnosis and treatment of most medical eye problems, and Co-management of LASIK and Cataract Surgery.
Dr. Mikkelsen is licensed as a Therapeutic Optometrist and has been affiliated with Texas State Optical since 1988. He has been in the Optometry Field for over 35 years. He enjoys seeing the whole family, from children to grandparents at their eye care appointments. He especially enjoys teaching patients about their eye conditions so they might better understand how their visual system works. He is a member of the Texas Optometric Association. Dr. Mikkelsen’s interests were always in the fields of Science and Health, which made Optometry a perfect fit! His professional interests include Contact Lenses as well as binocular vision anomalies. Dr. Mikkelsen speaks English and Spanish freely. Dr. Mikkelsen was raised in Southern California and came to Texas as soon as he could. He came to Houston for graduate work in Microbiology/Virology at the University of Houston. Outside of work, Dr. Mikkelsen thoroughly enjoys traveling, visiting new sites around the country as well as overseas!
Dr. Jonathan Tran attended UT Austin and the University Of Houston where he earned his B.S. in Biology and Business Administration as well as his Doctor of Optometry Degree. Board Certified in the Management and Treatment of various eye diseases such as Cataracts, Glaucoma, and Macular Degeneration, Dr. Tran gained valuable clinical experience while at Northeastern State University College of Optometry in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. He began working for Texas State Optical, over 10 years ago as a Doctor’s Assistant and has been working as a Doctor with TSO over 3 years. While working as a Doctor’s Assistant he felt he had a real connection with the patients and their vision matters. “As a Doctor’s Assistant, I learned that my personality made assisting and educating patients an easy career choice. Listening to and understanding patients issues helps me assist and educate the patient. Personalized in-depth care is what I strive for.” Dr. Tran states.
His professional interests include, advancing the profession of Optometry by maintaining up to date, continual education and learning the most advanced and successful standards of patient care. Giving back to the community is important to Dr. Tran. He trained with the Good Neighbor Clinic in Houston providing Comprehensive Eye Exams to all age groups and gave exams in Spanish. Dr. Tran also speaks English and Vietnamese fluently! Jonathan also worked with Prevent Blindness Texas to carry out vision screenings to the underprivileged.
Aurora, Colorado is where Dr. Tran is originally from. His family as well as Dr. Tran were residing in Denver, Colorado when his father received a transfer order while working for the United Airlines, formerly known as Continental Airlines, bringing them to Houston, Texas. Dr. Tran enjoys watching sports and exercising in his free time. He is a die-hard sports fan for the Texans, Broncos, Rockets and Astros. Dr. Tran likes to keep up with news and events and has a daughter Sara who keeps him on his toes when he gets home.
Dr. Lizeth Molina was born and raised in Houston, Texas. She attended the University of Houston where she graduated with a B.S. in biology and a minor in chemistry. As soon as Dr. Molina graduated, she went straight into optometry school at the University Of Houston College Of Optometry to complete her doctorate. During optometry school, one of her externship sites was a low income clinic in Houston where she helped keep Houston eyes healthy. Her other externship site was in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the Indian health service where she expanded her knowledge of diabetic retinopathy and iritis. Dr. Molina has been working at different offices while in undergrad and optometry school and has over 8 years of experience in the optometry field.
Dr. Molina specializes in diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, lasik co-management and contact lens fitting. “I have always had bad vision, but as a teen, I met an Optometrist who fit me in my first pair of contact lenses. I didn’t just see better, I also became fascinated by the concept of sight and the science behind it. I wanted to learn all the things the doctor did to improve my vision and from then on, I knew what I wanted to do with my life.” states Dr. Molina, on why she chose the optical field.
In her free time, Dr. Molina likes quality time with her family, friends and her little cat Tom. Traveling has allowed her to know about different cultures and natural places, “so it has always interested me” says Dr. Molina. She also likes to explore Houston and Texas whether at a new restaurant, park or a quiet place to relax. Dr. Molina speaks both Spanish and English fluently and looks forward to serving you and your family at your next eye examination!

Daniel is our General Manager for both of our Pasadena Locations. He started in Patient Services over 16 years ago and worked his way up to Management. He became ABO Certified in 2005 and is maintaining/continuing his educational requirements. Daniel plans to become a Regional Manager with Texas State Optical one day! Continual growth in the Optometry Field and his co-workers make his job worth being a part of. “Our patients are happy and provided with the best care due to our advanced training and upmost service.” says Daniel. He creates leadership, team building and a fun atmosphere. Daniel speaks English and Spanish fluently. Outside of the office, his interests are music, art, fashion, live shows, going to the movies, DJing and reading fashion books! While his favorite past time of all is spending time with his friends and family. Daniel’s favorite quote is said by the one and only Andy Warhol.

Lina's proudest accomplishment is retrieving her GED. She is currently looking to enroll in San Jacinto College to pursue her dreams in the Medical Field. Her long term goals are to grow with Texas State Optical, while gaining more knowledge about the Optical field as well as finishing her schooling. Lina always makes sure Southmore TSO patients are satisfied and happy. "It is also important to me, to make sure my coworkers and I enjoy our time here at work." says Lina. Lina has a lot of customer service experience and is a great asset to the team. She can not only help the patients in English but in Spanish too. Lina has three wonderful boys that she enjoys spending quality time with when not at work. She loves going out to eat and a great movie. A favored childhood memory of Lina's is spending her summer breaks in Mexico at her grandmothers while hanging out with her three siblings. Carolina has many goals but first and foremost, she plans to start college in the near future. Carolina thoroughly enjoys the optical field alongside her co-workers and the friendly atmosphere. "We have a very hard working and trustworthy environment." states Carolina who brings loyalty, great communication and determination to her team. Carolina is not only fluent in English but in Spanish as well! One of Carolina's proudest accomplishments is graduating High School through all of life's obstacles. Outside of the office, Carolina loves to shop and spend time with her friends and family. Her favorite childhood memory is spending weekends with her cousin. Cesar is currently attending the University of Houston in hopes to become an interpreter in the business and medical field in the near future. Speaking of interpreter, Cesar can assist patients in both English and Spanish. What Cesar enjoys most about his job is watching Southmore TSO patients leave with smiles on their faces. Cesar is very supportive to his fellow colleagues and patients alike. Outside of the office, Cesar's friends and family call him Cruz! He likes to enjoy a good cup of coffee and cruise around in his shades! Cesar's proudest accomplishment is getting a college education. His favorite childhood memory is being able to play video games without interruptions! Cesar's favorite quote comes from American singer-songwriter, Taylor Swift:
